Los Angeles has been the mecca of “firsts” forever and Farmers Markets took off here decades before it became a trend nationally. I love Farmers Markets because it is the perfect opportunity to shop locally and support local farms and businesses. A perfect addition to the process of simplifying my life.
Wellington Square Certified Farmers Market
4394 Washington Blvd. Los Angeles 90019
Every Sunday 9am-1pm
This particular Farmers Market located in the historic West Adams area undeniably pales in comparison to other weekly markets such as the Santa Monica and Hollywood locations however there are plenty of fresh fruits, baked goods, prepared foods, ethnic products and fresh farm goods to choose from. Since last year they have had a fresh farm vendor than brings fresh farm raised, caged free chicken and grass fed beef along with fresh eggs which have been a staple in my household for months now.
Lora seen in the above picture runs the fresh bread and honey booth. I bought an “Olio & Sea Salt” Ciabatta loaf for our homemade steak sandwiches tonight and some Sweet Alfalfa blossom honey. The Bread was a reasonable $5 and the honey was a sweet deal at $9 for 16oz, Lora features Temecula Valley Honey Company at her booth and it’s a sweet deal considering the honey is unprocessed unlike its peers found at major grocery stores nationwide. $9 for 16 oz.
Mom’s Specialty Foods has become my favorite go to for prepared Mediterranean foods. They carry many different flavored varieties of hummus, fresh goat and sheep cheeses, freshly baked pita bread, fried pita chips, olives, tabouleh, cucumber salad and so much more. Their selection is usually 3 for $10 and they will happily work a deal with you if you would like to purchase more. Today I bought Fried Pita Chips, 3 layer dip (pesto, sundried tomatoes, feta cheese) Chipotle Garlic Spread and Feta Jalepeno Spread. Today they gave me 4 items for $12.
The fruit here is amazing as it usually is at farmers markets, today we bought Blood Oranges and Tangelos. They are amazingly juicy and sweet. Sure to satisfy any sweet tooth guaranteed.$2/Pound. This is $10 worth. Yikes. Healthy is pricey! But worth it.
If you are in the area next Sunday it would be a great opportunity to check out the Farmers Market that has graced the mid city area for the past few years. Every Sunday 9am to 1pm @ 4349 Washington Blvd, Los Angeles 90019.
